Government Official Confirms MoD Examining Security Risk from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Told to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

A defence minister has revealed that the MoD is currently investigating the potential security risks posed by Chinese vehicles, while staff have been instructed to refrain from talking about secret information in any cars.

Safety Guidance for MoD Personnel

In a recently aired appearance on LBC, a defence minister commented on claims that MoD officials have been told not to talk about classified material while riding in China-made vehicles.

He explained that the MoD is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, however emphasised that safety is a issue in all modern vehicles.

We have a collection of thousands of cars in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a very small number.
However whether you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their car, to avoid having conversations at a classified classification in any vehicle, because of the growing risks of surveillance that are present in all automobile, to restrict those confidential talks in secure locations. This is a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about safety.

When it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Wider Security Context

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off public transport and bring disruption to public transit.

Additionally, a Russia spy ship was reportedly shining lasers at RAF pilots, described as a “extremely risky” act by defence officials.

The broader defence situation highlights the importance of robust protocols and vigilance in every aspects of government activities, from transport usage to communication practices.
